چکیده

In knowledge management literature it is often pointed out that it is important to distinguish between data, information and knowledge. The generally accepted view sees data as simple facts that become information as data is combined into meaningful structures, which subsequently become knowledge as meaningful information is put into a context and when it can be used to make predictions. This view sees data as a prerequisite for information, and information as a prerequisite for knowledge. In this paper, we give a detailed review of various definitions and explanations of DIKW (Data , Information, Knowledge, Wisdom) hierarchy. We will try to emphasize that the DIKW hierarchy needs to be explored further as its definition and understanding depends upon te context and domain of application . We will also discuss the inverted hierarchy that shows that data emerges only after we have information, and that information emerges only after we already have knowledge.

O(1)-Time Unsorting by Prefix-Reversals in a Boustrophedon Linked List

Conventional wisdom suggests that O(k)-time is required to reverse a substring of length k. To reduce this time complexity, a simple and unorthodox data structure is introduced. A boustrophedon linked list is a doubly-linked list, except that each node does not differentiate between its backward and forward pointers. This lack of information allows substrings of any length to be reversed in O(1...

The Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom Hierarchy and its Antithesis

The now taken-for-granted notion that data lead to information, which leads to knowledge, which in turn leads to wisdom was first specified in detail by R. L. Ackoff in 1988. The Data-Information-KnowledgeWisdom hierarchy is based on filtration, reduction, and transformation. Besides being causal and hierarchical, the scheme is pyramidal, in that data are plentiful while wisdom is almost nonexi...
